Description: This thematic map presents the daytime population ratio in the United States in 2009. This ratio represents the daytime population, measured as the number of workers who are employed in the area during the day, relative to the resident population of the area. The number of workers is the sum of employees by place of work from the 2009 infoUSA database. The 2009 total population is estimated by ESRI and includes both household and group quarters population. The ratio reflects the number of workers per 100 residents of the area. Total Population for 2009 is estimated with ESRI’s unique methodology blending GIS and Statistical technology with a unique combination of data sources (ESRI Demographic Update Methodology: 2009/2014). Total Population for 2014 is ESRI’s five year projection. The geography depicts states at greater than 25m scale, counties at 1m to 25m scale, Census Tracts at 250k to 1m scale, and Census Block Groups at less than 250k scale. The map has been designed to be displayed with semi-transparency of about 50% for overlay on other base maps, which is reflected in the legend for the map.
