Description: Lower 48 and Hawaii: Hillshade is derived from 10m USGS DEM where available, and 30m USGS SRTM NED when 10m DEMs were not available. Ocean/coasts tint is derived for the U.S. and from TeleAtlas with gaps filled in by NHD Plus areas. Forest canopy uses 30m USGS NLCD Forest Canopy in 10% bands. All freshwater hydrography is derived from NHDPlus flowlines, areas, and water bodies—improved by ESRI; flowlines are shown based on mean annual flow as determined by upstream drainage. Road and street data is from TeleAtlas. Large U.S. National Parks from NPS, and National Forests, state parks, and military bases from TeleAtlas (improved by ESRI). Large local parks, and local landmarks from TeleAtlas. Largest named landforms and marine water bodies are labeled; source is ESRI. City areas are ESRI’s urban polygons, shown roughly based on population density. 25 meter intermediate contours with 100m index contours were generated from the 30m USGS SRTM NED.
